An antique 19th Century exceptionally rare Victorian Solid Silver Novelty bear baiting desk inkwell, realistically modelled as a bear chained to rugged staff, the hinged head as a cover. Victorian silver novelty inkwells are extremely sought after. This piece features a rare subject related to bear-baiting, a tradition popular in England until the 19th Century. Each part is Hallmarked English silver (925 standard), Sheffield, year 1885 (S), Maker's mark "C.F" (probably Charles Favel of Creswick & Co).
