A pair of wicker chairs by Drucker, France, circa 1960
A charming pair of mid century wicker chairs made in France in the 1960s by Maison Drucker. Sometimes referred to as “bistrot chairs” as the model is so commonly seen in French bistrots up and down the country, what sets these apart from their modern contemporaries is the clever use of materials leading to a two-tone colour combination. Particularly charming is the label to the rear of the chairs with the telephone number simply reading: “14“ allowing us to date the chairs and to ascertain their wonderful condition given their age, testament to the sturdy artisan construction.
Since 1885, Maison Louis Drucker has adorned the terraces of Paris and around the world with its colorful cane rattan chairs. Located near Paris, their workshop still manufactures custom-made chairs, always in an artisanal way; its know-how is transmitted from generation to generation, becoming over time a striking symbol of Parisian identity.
