£1,195.00

A pair of ostrich egg candlesticks with silver plated mounts by Anthony Redmile. On a two silver plated mounts with an eboby base, impressed and signed J Anthony Redmile to the base, retailed in his shop and purchased in the 1970s.

Anthony Redmile burst into the London interior design scene in the 1960s, producing some of the most eclectic items for his illustrious clients. Selling from his shop at 73 Pimlico Road in the 1960s and 1970s, designer J. Antony Redmile was inspired by the eclectic collecting of the Victorian and Edwardian eras. He was best known for his extravagant designs that stood out through his use of unusual materials such as antler horn, ostrich eggs, sea shells, cow horn and bone in his furniture. House and Garden magazine once described him as ‘the most original, prolific and fantastical designer in Britain.’ His clients included Rod Stewart, Princess Margaret, Jacqueline Onassis and Joan Collins. He even designed the objects d’art for the cruise ship, Norway. This item exemplifies Redmile’s work, typically drawing influences from the natural world and adding his own signature eccentricity. A wonderful piece for any interior.

Condition: the silver plating to the base is a little dull and worn, appears to be a crack and possibly a repair to one of the eggs but overall very good vintage condition and structurally sound. Please refer top photographs.
